Antique 18th Century Sterling Silver Mounted Cowrie Shell Snuff Box
Presented is an antique, French or English sterling silver and natural cowrie shell snuff box made during the early to mid 1700s. The shell is securely mounted with coin silver and has a hinged lid. The box is finely engraved with an ornate monogram of the letter A.
This piece is guaranteed to be at least 900 purity, but is testing closer to 925 sterling or 950 purity silver.
This piece is in good overall condition considering its age. As you can see in the photographs, there are some splits to the piece but the box still securely snaps shut. There is a slight bend to the hinge but it still works. There is some wear to the top of the shell. The back of the shell was broken and there is a silver patch over the back, but this is only noticeable as a repair when you look inside of the box.
The box measures 2 by 3 1/4 inches and is 1 1/8 inches tall.
