This wonderful and evocative early-mid Victorian papier mache snuffbox features a scene of St. Paul's Cathedral and Blackfriars Bridge from the Thames.  Included is boat traffic on the river and some notable smokestack on the river's edge.  The whole scene has a late afternoon sepia quality to it.  I believe the scene was created by first applying a printed decoupage layer and then enhancing the scene with delicate painted colors in the sky, water and and specific details.  I believe the box dates to the mid Victorian period c. 1850.  It is 3" in diameter and is 3/4" thick.  There are two skillful minor repairs to the edge of the box but otherwise it is in very good antique condition.
