Rose Brass Bell with extra features
5 years ago we came out with the Kevin Powers designed Centennial bugle, aimed at the scouting market. The Centennial design balanced great playing characteristics to an affordable cost and it accomplished it's mission. In the course of selling the Centennial orders were going out to ".mil" e-mail addresses and/or shipped to APO addresses (Including two to an aircraft carrier). That's cheap marketing research that there were a lot of adult purchasers in the military environment. So it was decided to come out with a deluxe version to add a little bit more spice in line with our friends in Wisconsin.
Starting with Kevin's awesome acoustical design we changed over to a Hex receiver (as seen on a Bach Stradivarius) this allowed for a bit more mass holding the mouthpiece and helped stabilize the tone.
We also added chrome plated supports to the tuning slide tubes adding a bit more mass along with increased strength. Plus it added overall Pizzaz to the horn.
The Traditional water key was replaced with a high end Amado style water key.
The case is more compact and the horn fits quite snuggly. We've added thicker zippers for longer wear. A slightly larger front pocket was added. We're only selling the Tribute as a complete bugle/case/mouthpiece combination.
But the key playing difference is the Rose Brass bell which not only looks awesome in contrast, but also gives the horn a richer more complex tone. This might be the best sounding bugle you'll ever play.

Features:
Plays in the key of G assisting the beginning player hit the higher notes then a typical B-flat instrument. While the traditional Boy Scout bugle is listed as a "G/F" bugle. In reality the "F" is available by pulling the tuning slide WAY out. This makes for a very squirrelly instrument with poor intonation. We've included the extra long tuning slide, but since in reality the bugle plays best in "G" that's how we market it and recommend it be used. There are many who feel the lower pitch of the "G" bugle sounds more appropriate for the playing of "TAPS" even asking trumpet players to drop their pitch by pressing down valves 1 and 2.
Has great playability for the beginning player, resonates easily. Not to say it won't take practice to learn, it just takes a bit less work to play.
Hex shaped Trumpet mouthpiece receiver. The traditional Boy Scout bugle often takes a cornet mouthpiece or a special mouthpiece, we made sure ours was designed to use the same mouthpiece the scout is most likely to use in their school instrument, which would be a trumpet.
Large throat and Rose Brass bell makes for a deep rich large sound, more of a cornet characteristic. Designed to play taps with colorful complex tones, and take the edge off of "To the Colors." The Tribute plays a haunting TAPS and helps take the edge off of a round of To the Colors Especially helpful for someone like me with a lot of edge in their tone to begin with.
