ANTIQUE FIGURAL SHOE SNUFF BOX WITH SLIDE OPEN LID
Fabulously detailed tiny hand carved wood figural shoe form snuff box. There is a slide open wood lid at the top that has a tiny 3/4" x 1/4" metal plate (for personalization?) nailed on. There are 5 sets of tiny nail heads (the lowest on one side is missing) on the front as lace holes. Shoe and sole details are hand inscribed into the wood. Around the edge of the top of the shoe around the slide open lid are micro metal dots - nails without nailheads? PLEASE see the pictures for condition details. I know NOTHING about snuff boxes and this is an estate sale find. I leave the details up to your expertise!
Glued to the sole of the shoe is an old hand printed label that was present when I purchased it at an estate sale. I can only partially read the label "#5-12 ENGLAND Circa 18??"
Approx. 3 7/8"L x 1 3/8"H x 1 1/4"Wide Sold as found.
This hand painted snuff box dates mid to late 1800's and is decorated with three horses pulling a chariot. Box measures approximately 3 1/2" in diameter and 1 1/2" in height.
Condition good to fair. Open and closes tight. Some crazing and chipping on lid.
